CHERRY VALLEY — Yesterday marked the start of a new era for Cross County Thunderbird Athletics.

The district kicked off its new volleyball program with its first practice at the elementary school gym.

The district is exploring the addition of volleyball, with seventh- and eighth-grade students participating under head coach Kaylee Wolfe. Students will spend this year learning the fundamentals and concepts of the sport, with no games scheduled.

Wolfe will also be the new Cross County softball coach.

The district said the volleyball program will give students an opportunity to explore a new sport, with the goal of eventually fielding a high school team.
