CROSS COUNTY — Cross County will have a number of participants in the upcoming Special Olympics USA Games.
“Tevin Walker will be playing on our unified softball team. Unified softball, we’ve got five Special Olympic athletes take the field along with five traditional partners,” said Joey Astin, executive director of the St. Francis Area Development Center. “One of our partners is also Justice Jackson, who works for us. Julie Brown is going to be one of the coaches for that team. Justice is one of the unified partners. Tevin’s playing. That’s going to be exciting.
“Julie’s daughter, Jordan, who now works for us as well, she’s going to go as an athlete leader,” Astin added. “Jordan’s job will be a little bit different. She’s not going to participate in one of the sports, but she is going to be responsible for arriving on the 19th and starting the set-up of events. Then, she’ll go out and maybe do some interviews and take some pictures of athletes and such. At the close of the games, she’ll be part of that group that’s taking down things.”
The Special Olympics USA Games will be held from Saturday, June 20, to Friday, June 26, in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota.
