CROSS COUNTY — The Cross County University of Arkansas Extension Service has issued a warning after the Arkansas Department of Agriculture said some plants on the state’s prohibited plant list were found for sale at nurseries in Arkansas.
The Department of Agriculture said a variety of plants were put on the prohibited list because they pose a danger to the state’s natural ecosystem. They include the purple loosestrife, the giant salvinia, water hyacinth, and the Japanese bloodgrass (aka cogongrass).
The state said anyone offering these plants for sale should stop all sales immediately and that the plants need to be destroyed.
