The Cross County Chamber of Commerce held its 9th annual “Salute to Education” scholarship ball drop yesterday at The Ridges at Village Creek.
The chamber partners with Woodruff Electric each year to host the ball drop with proceeds going towards a $2,000 scholarship to a graduate from either the Wynne or Cross County School District. The winner of this year’s drop was Tyler Waymire.
Before the drop, the chamber board held its monthly meeting in the clubhouse at The Ridges. The board discussed the inaugural chamber Fall Classic golf tournament set for Oct. 6 at The Ridges. A total of 13 teams have already signed up for the event, which is expected to reach capacity. Giveaway items and volunteers are still needed for the tournament.
Next year’s slate of officers was also elected. Kevin Watts will serve as chamber board president; Jennifer Wallin will be vice president; and Zack Morris, secretary. Vicki Trimble will again serve as treasurer.
The board also discussed plans for a chamber member luncheon; paint the town for Wynne and Cross County homecoming; and Trick or Treat at Village Creek.
Members also approved a request from chamber director Ashley Brumley for new software called Locable that will help the office run more efficiently. The cost for the software is $3,700 and then $1,300 annually. Those costs include a new website strictly for the chamber.
