An informational meeting with landowners was held last night by officials with Cordelio Power of Canada concerning the windmill project in Cross County. The meeting was held at the Delta Gin.
Construction on the project is now underway. The project includes some 35 wind turbines that will be constructed west and southwest of Wynne, from near the U.S. 64 intersection with Arkansas Highway 350 to the L’anguille River, and south of the Wynne water treatment plant, along Arkansas Highway 350 from near Smith Chapel Baptist Church to Arkansas Highway 284, west of Wynne.
The project is expected to bring some $30 million in tax revenue for Cross County and employ some 12 to 16 people on a full-time basis while the construction is underway. The company is expected to upgrade several county roads to enable equipment to get to the turbine sites.
The preliminary plans are to begin preparations for foundations next month and to begin installing the turbines by this fall. The proposed completion date for the entire project is spring 2025.
