Colt Community Corporation celebrates 30th annual Chicken and Dumpling Day at Historic William Stone House

COLT — The Colt Community Corporation’s 30th annual Chicken and Dumpling Day is Saturday at the William Stone House, 44 Old Military Road. Walter and Ann Meals are the coordinators of the event.

Walter Meals said the Stone House isn’t made of stone unlike the name suggests.

“We still have some folks looking for one,” he said. “It is a white house that has six I call them colonial columns in front that face 306 Highway. You can’t miss it.”

The house instead is named after the man who built it, William Stone. It is located just east of the Arkansas Highway 1/Arkansas Highway 306 intersection in Colt.

“He came from England years ago up to Missouri, then moved his family to what was called Taylor’s Creek at that time,” Meals said. “He built that house. He was a local businessman. In fact, if you look up the papers on Colt, his name is on the paperwork when they incorporated as Colt changing the name from Taylor’s Creek.”

Chicken and Dumpling Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, or until they sell out. The cost is $6 per plate. A drink is not included. The event is primarily carryout, but there is some limited seating.
