WEST MEMPHIS, Arkansas — On Saturday, May 4, the 99th Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, will hold an open house at the West Memphis starting at 10 a.m. If you are age 12 and above and interested in flying, joining the military, earning your pilot certificate, going on fun activities at the local, state, and national level, then come check us out. Cadets get orientation flights in single-engine aircraft and will fly the plane. If you attend a summer encampment you may get the opportunity to fly in Army Blackhawk helicopters and C-130 Hercules aircraft. If you want to join the military, we can help you earn advanced rank once you enlist if you complete certain achievements.
Adults are needed to help with our youth program. Also, adults are needed to help in our search and rescue operations, whether being a scanner, on-ground team, or working mission base staff. Parents, this is an organization all family members can be part of. If your son or daughter is a Civil Air Patrol cadet and gets an opportunity to fly on military aircraft, so can you if you are a member.
There is a need for pilots to do search and rescue missions, fly disaster missions, fly missions for other agencies, and fly our cadets. We have C-172s and 182s which are equipped with the most current systems to help in fulfilling our missions. Pilots, you can also help with our cadets by teaching them about aviation.
Teachers, want some free STEM kits and other materials to help in your classroom? Then come join as an Aerospace Education Member (AEM). As an AEM you also get an annual orientation flight in a Civil Air Patrol aircraft and if you attend one of our AE Workshops you get 6 hours towards your professional development. Our workshops will give you ideas for your classroom, and get up-to-date information on STEM kits and classroom activities to help get students interested in possible aviation careers.
Civil Air Patrol offers something to everyone. We need mentors, drone pilots, writers, fundraisers, drivers, and more. If you have a skill set to share or want to develop a new skill set while volunteering. You do not need military experience. We are not considered military.
