Chicago Bears’ future at Soldier Field in question amid stadium reports

CHICAGO — The Chicago Bears, one of the oldest franchises in the National Football League, could be leaving Chicago and their longtime home of Soldier Field.

According to reports, Bears ownership is considering a move to nearby Hammond, Indiana, about 30 miles south of downtown Chicago. Those plans have not been finalized by the NFL, and it remains possible the team could instead relocate to property it owns in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The Bears are one of only two remaining NFL franchises that were part of the American Football Association, which became the NFL in 1922. The team has played at Soldier Field since 1971 and previously played at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
