Cherry Valley teen arrested with loaded handgun at Forrest City store

FORREST CITY — A Cherry Valley teenager was taken into custody by the Forrest City Police Department Monday after officers founded a loaded handgun that had been left inside a local store.

The department said officers responded to Walmart around 9:30 p.m. Monday regarding a possible shoplifter. It was determined the suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male from Cherry Valley, had already left the store but was detained in the parking lot.

Officers and store security were able to track the teenager’s movements and located a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun that had been left in the lawn and garden section.

The teenager is facing misdemeanor charges of being a minor in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
