CHERRY VALLEY — The Cherry Valley City Council is considering an ordinance that would allow aldermen to serve four-year staggered terms.
Currently, there is the possibility that most elected leaders in Cherry Valley — the mayor and city council, or the city council and the recorder-treasurer — could change in a single election.
Council members discussed an ordinance to move to four-year staggered terms during their August meeting. Cherry Valley Mayor Dennis Stephens, who is not seeking re-election, said the ordinance, if approved, would reduce the possibility of an entirely new administration taking office at the same time.
The Cherry Valley City Council could consider that ordinance during their monthly meeting Tuesday.
An agenda for the meeting has not yet been released. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry Valley City Hall.
The Wynne City Council and the Hickory Ridge City Council will also both meet Tuesday. The Wynne City Council will meet at 6 p.m. at Wynne City Hall while the Hickory Ridge City Council meets at 6 p.m. at Hickory Ridge City Hall.
