LITTLE ROCK — The Cherry Valley Chefs team took first place in the intermediate age division of the Arkansas 4-H State Food Challenge yesterday. The competition was held at the University of Arkansas – Pulaski Technical College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute in Little Rock.
The group is the first from Cross County to be recognized in the Food Challenge at both the district and state levels.
The Food Challenge gives teams 40 minutes to prepare a recipe using ingredients available at a local store. Teams are provided a sink, flat surface and electrical outlet but must provide all other items needed to complete the challenge.
Teams find out their secret ingredient and must prepare their dish within the time limit. Teams are judged during the cooking process and then present their final dish to a panel of judges.
Along with winning first place in their division, the Cherry Valley Chefs received the Most Creative Award for their “Crazy, Cheesy Potato Appetizer.”
