Changes Behavioral highlights services at Hometown Health meeting

WYNNE — The Cross County Hometown Health Coalition welcomed Brian Shaw and other staff members from Changes Behavioral Health in Wynne for its monthly meeting Tuesday.

Shaw is a co-owner of Changes Behavioral Health along with his wife, Deena. Shaw said that along with its presence in Wynne, Changes recently opened a new 6,500-square-foot facility in Crittenden County.

Shaw said that Changes serves about 1,000 people per week through its various services, which include the Messenger House Recovery Center. That facility is named in memory of a friend of Shaw’s, Dan Messenger, a fellow counselor and therapist who died as a result of opioid addiction.

The Messenger House allows individuals to receive outpatient treatment while continuing to work and take care of their families. Changes also offers three weekly community recovery meetings there, including a women’s group.

Shaw said Changes is not the right fit for everyone seeking treatment, but staff will help find the right place for them, including residential and out-of-state drug treatment facilities.

The committee will next meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Cross County Library. The guest speaker will be Jacob Hess of the Wynne Fire Department, who will speak on weather planning and disaster preparation.
