BARTON, Ark. — After initially tabling the matter, the Barton School District has agreed to accept the resignation of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bruce Guthrie.
The resignation will be effective at the end of the current school year on June 30.
Guthrie is a former teacher and coach for the Wynne School District. He has been hired as the next superintendent in Lonoke, starting on July 1.
The Barton School Board had initially failed to act on Guthrie’s resignation, which could have required the Lonoke School District to compensate Barton for the value of the remainder of Guthrie’s contract.
The Barton School Board had voted to extend the contract for another year in January. Another meeting of the Barton School Board is planned for tonight.
