LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — A total of seven tornadoes have been reported statewide this year, according to a new report by AccuWeather.
The report is based on data from the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. Tornado season in the Natural State typically runs from March through May.
Arkansas typically experiences just shy of 40 tornadoes per year, with most of them occurring in April. This spring was expected to bring fewer tornadoes due to atmospheric trends.
While the tornado count for Arkansas is so far relatively low, that is not the case for states in the so-called Tornado Alley and elsewhere.
Iowa leads the United States with the most tornadoes this year with 55. Kansas comes in second with 50 followed by Nebraska with 44, Texas and Ohio with 43, Oklahoma and Illinois with 40, and Florida with 34.
