LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Imagination Library said more than $15,000 has been donated to the program in honor of Dolly Parton since her death last week.
Parton died Aug. 25 following a brief battle with cancer. She was 80.
Parton founded the Imagination Library program in 1995 in memory of her father, who never learned to read or write.
The program, which has since spread across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Ireland, sends a free book each month to children until they enter kindergarten.
There are more than 82,000 children in Arkansas, including more than 400 in Cross County, enrolled in the Arkansas Imagination Library. It costs $31 to sponsor one child to receive a full year’s worth of books.
Donations can be made online.
