Area properties nominated for National Register

LITTLE ROCK — Four area properties are among those nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

The properties include Magnolia Cemetery and North End Elementary School in Helena-West Helena, the Charles H. and Eula Brown House in West Memphis and the Izard County’s first courthouse marker.

Magnolia Cemetery was established in 1865 as the city’s first public cemetery. The Charles H. and Eula Brown House is a two-story house built in 1935.

The Izard County first courthouse marker is also being nominated. The courthouse itself has been listed on the National Register since 1993. The marker is consistent with the design of other historic markers erected by the Arkansas Centennial Commission between 1936 and 1938.
